Cravebox Review – Winter Favorites

Most resolutions are made to be broken. Here’s one you can keep. Repeat after us: “I will start this year with fun finds and cool stuff… with a little help from my friends at Cravebox.”

Ahh, I finally have time to post this review! I was hoping today would be a slow day at work but on the contrary, busy busy busy!  Another drawing for Cravebox is available today for the Resolutions box.  I was very tempted to enter the drawing but my funds are kinda low. It took a lot of will power to not enter the drawing.  For those who don’t know, Cravebox is a company who sends out boxes based on certain themes and these boxes usually include new products for you to try out.  They range from $11-$15 and you need to enter a drawing to see if you get picked to receive one.  It used to be a monthly subscription box service but they stopped that a few months ago.

I was a little reluctant to sign up for the Winter Favorites box since I wasn’t entirely too happy about the Thanksgiving box but apparently my willpower does not amount to much.  I’m actually very happy with this Winter Favorites box and I guess it’s better to end with a bang!

Here’s my box un-veiling:

What I saw when I first opened the box. Yay, the colorful confetti is back! 🙂
It’s the little things that count.

Coupons and a recipe book

The box is packed to the max!

Mary Kay lip gloss.  I think the color is beautiful!

Campbell’s Gourmet Bisques in Golden Butternut Squash. Mmmm.

BelVita biscuits – Never heard or tried these but looking forward to it!

Vitabath Sampler

Heinz Chili Sauce – a full sized bottle and a recipe card

Here’s the whole box!

Sorry I don’t have the usual breakdown of the box but I’m running out of time.  Here’s more information about the products in the box: CLICK.  I paid $14 for this box and I think the items in the box are definitely greater than the amount I paid.

So there’s the Winter Favorites box. Can’t wait to try out the stuff!

I’m off on vacation starting tomorrow so I won’t be posting up while I’m away.  I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday and a terrific new year!

Cravebox – Knorr Ultimate Thanksgiving

I wanted to really like this box.  I was ecstatic finding out that I won the drawing for the Thanksgiving box and I was definitely excited for it because I thought the Cooking Light Cravebox was awesome.  I don’t know if I had hyped it too much for myself to be excited about this.  Or that I had read that several people weren’t happy with the Thanksgiving box.  I think I am mostly disappointed because there was nothing new to me to this box, aside from the Folded Words offer – $35 off plus free shipping!

I will definitely use all of the items in the box but I think what I am feeling is underwhelmed.  I guess it’s hard to impress me because I tend to try new products when I see them in the store.  None of the products in these box are new to me.  I have seen most of them in the stores, in ads and/or commercials.

Here’s the un-boxing!

This time the blue Cravebox was shipped by itself.  It wasn’t within a plain brown box like it was for the Cooking Light box.  My box was slightly crunched up because of that.  This box is not as large as the Cooking Light box but it’s still relatively big, at least compared to the Conscious Box I placed on top of it for comparison.

On a sad note, I didn’t get the fun colored confetti as the filler for the box. I just got some plain wadded up paper for filler.
Not very attractive as the other boxes were…

Ta-daa!  The unveiling…
Hmm..canned veggies and envelope gravy…Okay…

The informative card that came with the box – the packing list

Recipes and info leaflets.

1) Pillsbury Grands! Biscuits –  A free coupon for the biscuits since they couldn’t really include that in the box since it’s a refrigerated product.  I’ve never tried that kind of Pillsbury before and the commercials make them look very appetizing! I will definitely be using this coupon!  I’m not sure how much one can is this is but these are regularly on sale.

2) Folded Words offer – $35 plus free shipping – I think this is the best offer in the box.  I wasn’t aware Walgreens offered this kind of service.  I definitely have holiday cards on my mind because I need to get one made soon so I can send them out for the holidays.  I will most definitely use this offer especially since it’s such a great coupon!

Here’s the whole box!
I apologize because I didn’ t take close-up pictures this time.

3) Del Monte Specialty Whole Green Beans – this is kinda funny because just yesterday I saw a commercial for these green beans and was wondering how different are they compared to other canned green beans.  I think it’s because these are whole and not cut up or anything.  The commercial demonstrated many different uses for these green beans – in a casserole, a stir fry, sauteed with butter.  They were marketing that these were just like any other green beans since they were canned at the peak of their freshness.  I’m looking forward to trying these out.  This link shows you several different ways and recipes to use these whole green beans.  I received 2 cans of this.  1 can costs approximately $2.09 so 2 cans cost $4.18

I also received a recipe booklet from Del Monte using their products.  Seems useful!

4) Knorr Homestyle Stock – Reduced Sodium Chicken Stock – I received the reduced sodium chicken stock.  Note that there are other flavors available – Beef and Vegetable. The picture actually looks a lot larger than the actual product.  That would make sense since it is a concentrated form of stock.  If I wanted to make a broth soup, I would just use one of these containers and mix with 3.5 cups of water to make a chicken stock.  They also contained recipes where I could use this in making mashed potatoes, or cooking grains, such as rice, pasta, quinoa (or maybe the freekeh I received!) in the concentrated stock broth to give it more flavor.  This costs $3.99

5)  Duncan Hines Frosting Creations Frosting Starter with Strawberry Shortcake Mix-Ins – Wow, look at all those varieties!  This just prompts me to make more cake balls.  The old fashioned kind.  Not the cheater ones (I have the cake ball machine. Super easy and fast!)  Or cupcakes!  I used to bake a lot. I haven’t baked recently because of my munchkins and because Meanie and I are too fat.  Ok, sorry, I’M too fat.  LOL.  The website is very helpful because it also has links to desserts that uses these specific Frosting Creations.  How fun! The flavoring packet costs $1.40 and the frosting starter probably costs around $2.50-ish. Yikes, in searching for the price, I came across this link – they call the frosting an abomination.  Eeks.  I’m kinda scared to use this now…

6) McCormick Turkey Gravy Mix – I love gravy. I really do. I love drowning my food in gravy, only when it’s appropriate. I also love McCormick products..but gravy from an envelope?  If I buy store bought gravy, I usually buy it in…gravy form.  Not a powdered envelope.  Yuck.  I’ll try this but I don’t expect to be wowed. 😦  I just realized that McCormick doesn’t have a ready made gravy product.  Ah, that makes sense.  My bad!  1 packet costs $1.29 so 2 packets cost $2.58

7) Brookside Smooth Dark Chocolate Covered Pomegranate – 7 oz bag – These are really good but..I’m sick of them.  😦  My local Costco has been selling these for quite a while and I think we’ve gone through several bags of these.  If you like dark chocolate, you’ll really like these.  There are other varieties available, too, – Dark Chocolate Goji or Dark Chocolate Acai.  I haven’t tried the other two nor am I familiar with the Goji or the Acai berries.  They’re berries, right?  🙂  Note that these are not dark chocolate covered pomegranate seeds.  The flavor of the pomegranate has been infused in the chocolate so you don’ t have to deal with the annoying pom seeds.  Phew!  Costco sells a 12 7 oz bags of these at $40.45 so one bag will cost $3.37

So that’s the whole Thanksgiving box!  I mean, it’s not horrible but I’m not super thrilled or impressed by any of it.  The box will not go to waste but I can and will use everything in there.  The box costs approximately $18.02 (probably more than since I did not include the Pillsbury in the pricing).  The box itself costed $14.00 for me so I definitely profited from this box. Also especially that that awesome Folded Words coupon, I definitely lucked out on this box.

For those of you who are not familiar with Cravebox, it is a subscription box program where you enter drawings for different themed boxes.  It’s not a monthly subscription (it used to be but is no longer).  I’m going to hold off of these boxes for a while.  They’re very addicting but my subscriptions are winding down and I’ll need to cut down on my spending.  🙂

I didn’t win the drawing for the Coffee Lover’s box and I’m a little relieved.  I’ll be definitely on the lookout for other people’s reviews for this box and for the Coffee Lover’s box.  The next box I’m interested in is the Little Ones box but I’m going to pass on the rest of them.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, everyone! If you’re not in the states, then please have a terrific weekend! 🙂

Cravebox Review: Cooking Light Selects

That was my reaction as I first saw the box, opened the box and saw its contents. WOW!  I am totally impressed and totally happy!  Whatever doubts I had before for Cravebox has totally vanished with this box.

If you’re new to this subscription box business, here is what Cravebox is all about, taken from their website.

They just changed their program. Before there were monthly boxes sent to subscribers but there were only a limited number of spots available. I never received one of their monthly boxes. What was cool was that even if you were not a regular monthly subscriber, you could enter drawings for one of their Limited Edition boxes.  So that’s what I’ve been receiving in the past – Limited Edition boxes.  So far, I have received the Summer Beauty, Summer BBQ and Book Lovers Limited Edition boxes.

Honestly, I wasn’t wowed by the Summer BBQ LE box.  I liked the Summer Beauty box and the Book Lovers box was mostly good.  It was a good read – but that’s another review I have to do later on, in the near future. I’m so behind on blogs and reviews and updates! Arrgh.

I find that a lot of people weren’t too excited about this new change to Cravebox – no more monthly subscriptions. They just have themed boxes where you just enter a drawing to see if you get one.  I’ve been regularly winning the drawings for the Limited Edition boxes but now that the pool of people is much larger than before, I probably won’t get as many.  Ah well, better for my bank account.

But like, WOW!  The Cooking Light Selects box only costed $13.  I think that’s a really good deal based on the stuff I received.  Shall we see the box?  🙂

That’s the box.  That big huge one.
I put a Conscious Box on top of it just so you can see how huge this box really is.
The box came in at 8.4 lbs.  Huge!  Their Limited Edition boxes are usually much smaller (a little bigger than the Conscious Box) and probably weigh around 2 lbs, no more than 3 lbs.  WOW!

What a pretty box inside the huge box!

Wow, that is really a big box!  It feels like Xmas!

Voila! The innards of the box.  WOW!

A closer look at the card that came with it.
You can click on it to see a larger picture of it.

Details of the loot.  🙂

Coupons, recipes, a magnet (very useful, I love these!) and
information booklets that also came with the package.

3 packages of 2 Dole Fruit Crisp cups – 6 total!
3 Flavors:  Apple Cinnamon, Peach, Apple Pear
These look yummy! I haven’t tried them yet but will, in the very near future.
I can even try feeding this to my picky eater, CB, and see if he likes it.

If I look around on the internet, I get varying prices for it so
I’ll just average out the price to about $3 for each pack. (I found $3.29 and $2.66)

So $3 each at 3 packages = $9.00 already

Perfect Pinch Salt Free Garlic & Herb Seasoning from McCormicks
2 bottles @ around $3.89 per bottle = $7.78
I’m already salivating on what I can sprinkle this stuff on – chicken, fish, pork.  Yum!

WOW! It’s as if Cravebox can read my mind!

Tully’s French Roast Coffee (12 oz) – never tried this brand before but I do love French Roast Coffee!
Amazon sells a 2-pack of this at $32.99 so it comes to about $16.50 each

Torani Salted Caramel Syrup.  YUM YUM YUM!
Salted Caramel is my favorite. I love love salted caramel.
Caramel would have been good enough already but salted caramel makes my heart swoon.
I cannot wait to try this!  Maybe this weekend at the Mrs. Prindables House Party with dessert!
And Sugar free! Even better!
Torani prices a bottle (750 ml) of this at $7.95

Nectresse – No-Calorie Sweetener 40 packets
Another no-calorie sweetener, made with Splenda.  Made from monk fruit.
I have NO IDEA what a monk fruit is…must Google..
I use Splenda with my coffee all the time so this might be another great alternative.
On Amazon, this box costs $5.62

So there you have it!
If I add up all the bold numbers above, I get a whopping $46.85!!

I paid $13 for this box.  I really have to say this box is totally worth it and I’m very VERY pleased.

Thank you, Cravebox, for drawing my name! 🙂

I absolutely love this box and cannot wait to try all of these things!

Are monthly subscriptions boxes (back when they existed) from Cravebox usually this spectacular?  Or is this just a really good box?

So if you’re interested in joining Cravebox for a chance of winning some of their themed boxes, go ahead and sign up at no cost at all.  I just recommend leaving a valid credit card on your account so they can charge your card if you do win a drawing, creating no delays or losing your box.

I already entered the drawing for two more boxes.  =X  Addicting, I tell you.

There’s also a Holiday Spruce Up Box available but I did not sign up for that one.

[This review is my own opinion and Cravebox did not compensate me in any way to write this review]

Damn You, Sandy!

Sorry I’ve been MIA.  Hurricane Sandy hit my area last Monday around 4pm and I lost my power at 11am on Monday, before the storm even hit.  Ack!  I’m am now on my 9th day without power but luckily, my parents live nearby and they never lost their power.  My situation does suck big time but I am far luckier than other people who have lost everything.  My parents never fail to never let me forget how grateful and lucky I am because they are nearby and have heat and everything. I AM grateful and I AM thankful.  If it weren’t for them, we’d be stuck in a shelter somewhere, or hotel or just freezing in the cold.  *sigh*  Meanie, my boys and I miss our home but it is way too cold to go home.  Now the munchkins and I are sick so it’s best that we stay in the warm house.  My mom is saving me a lot in the middle of the night because BB hasn’t been sleeping well so my mom has come to help me.  Thank God!! 🙂

JCP&L (our electric company) says that we’ll get our power back BY Wednesday but that’s what they’ve been saying since last week.  I’ve heard from CB’s daycare owner that the reason why we don’t have power in our area is because the substation has been severely affected by Sandy and the soonest we will get our power is NEXT WEEK.  WTF. FML.

At this rate, we’re going to have to cancel our weekend festivities – Football Sunday/My birthday/Mrs. Prindables House Party.  How ironic I finally get chosen to host a House Party party and I am not able to host a party because of lack of power.  Ugh.  I hope this doesn’t hurt my chances of other parties.  This sucks total monkey balls.

I am back at work today – that’s how I am blogging.  Ha ha.  I am behind on my blogs and reviews.  I finally finished the book I received from the Cravebox Book Lover’s box and will need to review that.  Oh! Cravebox changed the way how they work now.  There are no longer monthly subscription boxes, just boxes in general that you have to enter a drawing to win.  I won the drawing for the Cooking Light Cravebox that should be arriving this week. Looking forward to that!

The Mrs. Prindables House Party package should be arriving tomorrow and I just need to figure out where I’m going to keep it cold.  I guess I could just keep it in my garage because it’s so freaking cold in my house now due to lack of heat.  😦

So stay tuned and wish us luck in getting our power back.  😦

Think Thin

“Satisfy your sweet tooth with the rich flavors of brownie and almond pieces
covered in delicious dark chocolate.
Packed with 20 grams of protein and zero grams sugar,
this gluten free bar helps support your weight loss and energy goals.”

I received a ThinKThin Brownie Crunch protein bar (clever name!) from one of my Cravebox‘es.  This one, to be exact.  Honestly, I was scared to try it.  Another protein bar in a chocolate flavor?  How ghastly can it be?  I’ve eaten my share of protein bars. Some good, some bad but I always get sick of it.  I’ve been unusually hungry the last few days – getting ready for hibernation since it’s getting colder, I dunno.  Started working out?  (kinda, but it’s better than nothing)  I’m not exactly sure why.  I’ve near exhausted my food supply (food I bring from home because food prices around my office are frightening in a bad way) and I found this lurking underneath a big pile of junk I didn’t feel like chomping on.  I might as well, since I’m still hungry….

And it’s pretty damn good!  This would be a great chocolate fix without all the added calories and sugar.  I just ate half and I’m full and want to go to sleep. Ha ha.

I’m stuck at work today.  I have no sick/vacation days left because my maternity leave earlier this year depleted most of my supply.  Ugh. It’s gotta be the slowest day ever and I have work, which makes it worse.

I received my flu shot on Friday and I’ve been feeling really tired and lethargic since then.  I had 7 hours of sleep on Friday night and I should feel really refreshed because that’s a lot of sleep for me these days but I was so so so tired.  I’m still tired today because BB was acting up last night.  Zzzz…

Happy Columbus Day! My boss just told me that you’re supposed to wear red on Columbus Day. I had no idea.  Did anyone know that?  LOL

Meanie is at home with CB and they went to have fun somewhere.  He dropped BB off at my parents’ place.  BB has been acting very peculiar lately, in a bad way.  He must be stuck on me, like white on rice, 24/7.  I know, it’s the dreaded separation anxiety. It’s here and it’s here to stay. 😦 He screams bloody murder when I put him to bed in his crib now.  😦 We were so desperate for sleep we even tried co-sleeping but he wouldn’t have it.  Phew!  What he REALLY wanted was for me to bring him to the guest room (where we hung out in those days when he was a wee newborn and sleep with him there; and how we nap on the weekends).   I really hope this doesn’t become a nightly thing!

So I’m exhausted.  And I just got a bunch of work.  *sigh* 😦

This was how it used to be for BB and me:

Back in the day when he would sleep in his bouncer next to me.  Back in the day when he was this tiny!  He’s ginormous now!  He still fits in that bouncer but his feet hangover the edge.  🙂  These days, I just make a little pen for him on top of the bed with pillows (so he can’t roll over them and topple to the ground) and I sleep horizontally, next to his “pen”.
